Damn. Is it roses or lillies? Roses. Lillies. Roses? Lillies?

He had been married to her for nearly seven years, he should have known which type of flower was her favorite. He thought he knew his wife like the back of his hand, but if he couldn’t even think of her favorite flower? That was not a good sign. Especially with their anniversary looming.

Today was not their anniversary, or any special day really. It was just a normal, boring day. But David liked to surprise his sweetheart with little things like this. He had been working extra hours at the Ministry, and she had been busy with her students. What with those distractions, as well as caring for their two children, David had not been able to see Laurel very often. It felt like weeks since they had been able to just relax together. So David had dropped his children off at his mother’s house, and had gone to a floral shop. Since he couldn’t decide between roses and lillies, he chose both. He smiled and thanked the florist, then he set off for Hogwarts.

He always felt so nostalgic every time he came back to the old school. He was convinced it would never change, and so far, it hadn’t. He watched students pass by, laughing with each other, or worrying about upcoming exams and such. He smiled at a young couple holding hands. They looked so happy and in love. It made him want to sweep Laurel off to Paris or something. But they had neither the time or the money. So they would have to be content with loving each other within the cold English countryside. He sighed as he finished the walk down the corridor to her office. He snuck up behind her and covered her eyes with his hands from behind, then placed the flowers before her nose.

“Guess who, gorgeous?”

David

Laurel's day was not going well. She had three detentions scheduled for tomorrow evening, several students that just would not behave, and three brown nosers that would not leave her alone. Merlin, sometimes she truly hated being a teacher. The only good thing that came out of today was that it was over. She was finally able to relax and not have to worry about anything but how to get rid of the stress headache she had. It was just not a good day, and nothing would make it any better. Not even her husband, who had coincidentally was right in front of her with a bouquet of flowers. Sighing a bit she gently took them and placed them into a vase.

"Thank you," she said rather stiffly. "They are lovely."

She knew that David was just trying to be sweet, but she didn't have any patience to show his proper appreciation when she was in a mood like this. And it wasn't his fault, she was just in an awful mood. Of course the irony of it all was that he was no doubt going to have to deal with the brunt of it.

"Did you leave Melody and our little man with a sitter?" she asked, cocking her one eyebrow at him.

Laurel sighed and massaged her temples, this was just not a good time for her to be affectionate. Her students were trying her patience, and her boss was breathing down her neck to get more students involved, otherwise the school would remove the musical theory program. God, she wished she knew how to make music cooler.
